Cake deco

Another thing I find rewarding and eventful is making nice fancy cakes. I don´t do it very often, just because my time don´t allow for it. As well I have a lot of other things that I also enjoy doing, like card-making and knitting.

Last year for my son´s 2nd birthday I made this cool flowery pillow cake. It took me a long time to make, I think I used about 3-4 days with the flowers, they had to dry before assembling. The cake itself was made in one afternoon.

Also last year, in the autumn I was asked if I could make this firetruck cake for a friends boy who turned 4. The only think he had talked about for the last couple of months was that for his birthday he wanted a firetruck cake. So here it is:

Birthday card and envelope

My friend had her birthday in the beginning of March and I wanted to make her a card.

I love using Distress Inks with blending tool, and adding droplets of water.

First I stamped the image with Archival Ink, and coloured it with my distress ink and water.
I then added some rubber cement on the images and used various distress inks with the blending tool.
I´m quite happy with the outcome of this card :)

A while a go I saw this cool tutorial on Kristina Werner´s (link will take you to her blog) blog about using rubber cement to write down the name, and then use distress ink and blending tool on top. This gives you a really cool effect.

Baby nest

When my boy was born, we had to build pillows and blankets around him in his bed. His bed was too big and all he wanted was a small and tight place. So when I saw this baby nest idea I thought that if I ever had another baby this would be genius and I wanted one.

I know they sell "sleepyhead" in most baby stores, I find that it´s quite expensive, about 1000 NOK. I´ve seen a lot of people making their own so I thought I would give it a go. You can get fabric and templates for way much cheaper than what "sleepyhead" cost, of course depending on which fabric you choose. One store in Norway who sells templates are "Stoff og Stil". They have both an Internet store and physical stores.

Yesterday I had some extra energy and spare time so I decided to make this. It took a few hours, but it was quite simple to make.

Knitting projects

A long time ago I started knitting, but I never got around to finish the pieces I started and I just didn´t find the peace in knitting. Just before Christmas I decided that I wanted to knit something for my little unborn girl. It started off with a couple of knitted baby shoes:

Which was a delight to make, because they were so fast and easy to knit. I think I used about 1-2 evenings on each shoe.

I then saw this adorable baby hat, it was way to advance for someone like me who is used to only knitting back and forth. But I thought I would give it a go and see how it turned out. A couple of not so noticeable errors, but will definitely be used.

A long time ago I bought all this yarn from Sandnes Garn, named Easy. I was going to make some baskets to have in the dressing room, but I never got around to make them.

I searched on Sandnes Garn, and I found these free recipes (clicking the link will take you to the site for free recipes, unfortunately it´s all in Norwegian) and decided to make a hat for myself. And yesterday I just finished my hat, the last threads are fixed and it´s all ready to use.

Maybe a few lucky persons will get one for Christmas.

So here in Norway where I live, we have really hard winters. This year it´s been down to about -26/-27℃. Just before Christmas my belly started to be too big to be able to close the zipper on my jacket, and I thought: "What can I do about it?". I still have all this yarn "Easy" and I got an idea for a belly-warmer. It´s not the nicest looking piece of clothing, but it works, it keeps both my belly and breast warm.

So now I´m hooked on knitting, and are planning my new project.
It´s just so peaceful and joyful to knit. And I can do it everywhere and best of all I can do it while my boy is awake. Me sitting in the chair and him playing on the floor. Perfect balance!

Secret friend

I mentioned in my last post what 2015 will bring for us, including a new baby girl due in April.
This is the reason behind my card. I´m part of a forum for expecting mothers, and we had this secret friend exchange. I made a card to go with the present I bought.

The words in Norwegian "Lykke til med siste innspurt" translates to English "Good luck with the final leg/final stage of your pregnacy".

My card is inspired by such a great talented woman, Kristina Werner (by clicking her name, it will take you to her blogpost). I have been following her blog for a while and she does so many cards which I love and gets inspired by.

Thanks for dropping by

Tim Holtz - 12 tags of 2015 - January

So my first entry of this blog will be a challenge that I really wanted to do last year, but never got around to do: The Tim Holtz - 12 tags of 2015 (the link will open a new window and take you directly to Tim Holtz blog challenge).

The challenge is to do one tag each month featuring Tim Holtz great techniques and products. On his blog he posts a tutorial on how he does his tag, you can if you want follow it, or make your own version.

It´s the first time I´m making a tag for this challenge, and I loved it! I decided to go for a version of his tutorial, but with some alterations of my own. The words

I have chosen at the top describes what this year have in store for us:
"New dreams", "New life", "New girl" "New sister", "Altered life" "Memories".
As you maybe have guessed, we will have a new addition to our family this year, mid-April.

The bottom words are what are important to me:
"Friends", "laugh", "create creative art", "blessed", "family always together", "family", "always together".

I hope you like my first post of many.

So here is my contribution to the Tim Holtz - 12 tags of 2015 - January:
